About the Author
R. N. Sahai is a retired professor of linguistics from the Central Institute of Hindi, Agra. Other books by R. N. Sahai are Oxford English Hindi Dictionary and Student s English-Hindi Dictionary. He has headed the Post Graduate Department of Sanskrit at DAV College in Dehradun in the past, and has written several works on lexicography. He has also been the co-author of other dictionaries from the Oxford University Press. He has also been a member of an Expert Committee at UNESCO that aims at teaching foreign languages. S. Kumar is a Professor. An authority on the subject of Translation Theory, Kumar has also been a professor of Linguistics at the Central Institute of Hindi in Agra. He has written extensively on Translation Theory, Practice and Stylistics.

Meant for Hindi readers to learn English not the other way around

This not meant for English speakers to learn Hindi. For a beginner to learn Hindi from English this turned out to be an useless book.

No EXACT meanings in English are given. No gender is provided. Even how to use the dictionary is in Hindi. However there are many sentences that are in Hindi and English. For an advanced student, this may be useful. I found it very difficult to understand the Hindi sentences, though I can read the script.

Hugh B. Urban is Assistant Professor of Religion and Comparative Studies at Ohio State University. He is the author of The Economics of Ecstasy: Tantra, Secrecy, and Power in Colonial Bengal (2001) and Songs of Ecstasy: Tantric and Devotional Songs from Colonial Bengal (2001).

Cogent, thorough and accessible history of the study of Tantra

Hugh Urban's engaging historical account of the study of Tantra is extremely thorough and thoughtful in its approach to the subject. He covers a large amount of ground in a relatively short amount of space, tracing the origins of the modern ideas about Tantra, its historical foundations, its rather infamous travel to the West, appropriation and distortion by New Age "tantric sex" groups, and everything in between. His exploration of Sir John Woodroffe (Arthur Avalon) and Aleister Crowley in particular are fascinating and revealing, and anyone interested in Woodroffe's work should read Urban's chapters on him. Urban's writing style is approachable, no small feat with such a vast and technical subject, and a pleasure to read. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in the history of Tantra, Eastern mystical traditions, Hinduism and the history of religions and religious studies.

Very interesting concept

Read the book in one sitting, the material is very interesting. I know folks like to know "did it work for you?" so I will relate my adventures with happy money. Did as instructed in two places, my college library and neighborhood drug mart, five dollars each place. In the next week I got multiple offers to do paid surveys (never signed up for them so don,t know how they got my details), and made $175 from that. Also got a 75% off from major purchase at Kohls in a scratch and win (saving of $300ish), when i have never scored over 15% before. Completing my hat trick was a trip to downtown, for a paid conference (expenses paid by employer) for recognition of work well done (value of $250). At this conference I will complete another level of certification, after which i am entitled to a 15% salary increase. This had been held up by my moody boss for the last 6-7 months. A 15% increase translates to another 7.5K per year. So yes, it did work for me. I plan to do this atleast once a month,and have made an entry in my calendar for every 1st of the month to distribute my happy money. Not only does it work for me, but I like to think of the happy surprise for whomever gets it as well! Thank you Laina !!

Bringing Money into Your Life in Two Steps!

If you are like me and have sat back wondering why those that are rich are getting richer and those that are poor stay that way. Maybe it is due to the fact that these people may know something that we all don't. In the book I came across titled Happy Money (Increase the Flow of Money with a Simple 2-Step Formula), I along with many that have bought the book have discovered the power of wanting something and making it so with the power of positive thinking. Too often a person will not make the needed changes because they feel that they are simply too hard or that manifestation will simply not work.

While I was looking into this topic, I also came across this other wonderful book titled Manifestation Magic: Attracting Abundant Wealth, Incredible Health, Great Relationships, and Limitless Success into Your Life. This I have to admit was a game changer in my life. I had always heard people that said that they hoped for something and that it just happened out of nowhere but I had not myself been able to see this happen in person. That changed in a big way after reading this book and seeing that if I want to have more money that the power was simply in my hands and that I alone could make it happen or not.

Happy to Have Happy Money!

I picked this book up on a whim -- and it was quite a delight to read! It is so easy to get bogged down in lack -- always coming up short long before a month ends. Reading this book completely shifted my feelings about money. It is hard to explain, but it really was like a light switch for me. I followed the directions in this book, and I truly did feel happy....and of course the obvious question is...did the money follow? Well, I'm still waiting to win the lottery, but two things did happen within two days of implementing this extremely easy and fun program that Laina Buenostar lays out...the first is that I got a notice that my health insurance premiums were going to be reduced this year (has that EVER happened???) and a very large bill that I received a couple of weeks back has been paid in full by an anonymous donor. Again, such a thing has never happened to me before. One thing I would suggest to anyone implementing the strategies in this book is to keep track of such events as they happen. It is easy to say that money did not appear...but having bills paid for you or having a bill slashed by 20% IS money in your pocket and it is just fun to see all of these amazing 'coincidences.'

I will continue to follow the Happy Money plan. It is fun, easy and yes, I believe incredibly successful! Best wishes and blessings to all who suspend disbelief and give it a try!

James Turnbull is the author of five technical books about open source software and a longtime member of the open source community. James authored the first and second books about Puppet, and works for Puppet Labs, running client services. James speaks regularly at conferences including OSCON, Linux.conf.au, FOSDEM, OpenSourceBridge, DevOpsDays and a number of others. mixed bag of choices, "pro" - maybe ? maybe not.. you decide

I always liked "Apress" books and keep purchasing them side by side with O'Reilly titles. Most "Apress" books and authors give very "in the trenches" and "gotcha" oriented approach, while O'Reilly seems very dry . Well, here we have 1053 page volume that is trying to cover most issues and applications that any Linux sysadmin will come across. Plenty of advise, plenty of "do that", "do not do this" options. However, I gave it only 3 (three) stars - here is why:

1) A lot of "entry level" stuff that takes at least 15%-20% of the book. You just do not call the book "Pro" and show "grep localhost /etc/*" on page 97. All previous pages are written about history of Linux, why you need a Linux server, blah-blah - that can be easily skipped. Just randomly opened a page .. page 358 - how to use "df -h" command and what it does. What a revelation! IMHO, a book called "pro" need to spend a lot of time dealing with nitty -gritty stuff - like building HA systems, integration of Spamassassin+postfix+clamav, integration of SVN+Wiki+Bugzilla+Apache - we have built a similar system here, but I would love to read more from authors who know how to architect a scalable solution for 200+ servers. That would be "Pro"

2) The second drawback is very selective choice of applications at hand. I know that Puppet, for example, is an excellent package and has plenty of features - but would you mention at least Cfengine that been long enough and has a huge installation base?! Give a half of page explaining pros/cons Cfengine vs Puppet - and explain your choice for Puppet (Chapter 19) - yet give people an option to explore Cfengine. Or Chapter 10 gives a verdict to Postfix - "postfix is much easier to understand, configure and troubleshoot" - so no reference to Sendmail!!! OK, I agree with you - but can you give a half-page reference list to Sendmail choices?

Contains Linux system administration advice and recipes.

I have found this book useful, being a Windows admin who doesn't drop into a Linux terminal session very often. The book contains the usual man pages, "history of Linux", etc. The real reason to purchase it is the included advice and recipes. Every chapter that I have read has a real "I've done this many times" feeling to it. I have yet to find a technical mistake in the information that I have gotten from this book (I can't say that about most websites).

This book is not a complete reference to the most popular utilities or the newest distributions. It falls short of a complete Linux reference due to the fact that the authors seem to only discuss tools that they have personal experience with. This book also won't teach you how to become a top-notch Linux System Administrator. What it will do, is quickly point a non-Linux system administrator in a possible direction when they need to make configuration changes. I have also found that this no-batteries-or-Internet-required reference comes in handy when working on Linux machines in remote locations.

A Windows or Mac system admin may find this book a welcome addition to their technical library. A Linux system admin may want to look elsewhere.

Broadest & Most Up-To Date View of Embedded Linux Development

This excellent Developer's Guide to Embedded Linux Systems Development has several features to recommend it, among the sparse other choices for this important topic. It is extremely up to date, takes a broad and pedagogically sound view of the Embedded Linux Environment and takes the extra step to advise on choice of a board and development environment (how to make the choice, a piece of information that won't easily go stale) and in describing the entire Embedded Systems Development Process. It describes hot to select a board and the accompanying development environment, what to do when you get your board and how to make it boot, how to develop a Customized (to your development style and application/hardware environment) Linux Environment (Development Version and Deliverable to the Consumer), how to debug applications,the nature of hard and soft Real-Time requirements, system tuning, and how to handle field updates to the software. A vitally important chapter that should be included in every Embedded Systems development book (not just Linux), but that as far as I know is included in no other book, Chapter 17 on Deploying Applications talks about all of the issues in creating an "Embedded First-Class Final Product". The issues discussed in this vital section include not only a final hardware and software deliverable, but "Systems Integration" with issues of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing design as well as the expected (by Software Professionals) issues of Deployable Boot Loaders and File Systems.

This excellent and friendly guide to building Embedded Linux Architectures will be valuable not only to EE's and Software Professionals but the growing ranks of hobbyist and professionals in other domains who are experimenting and deploying applications with the extremely popular and recently released Beagleboard, Bug Labs and Gumstix Embedded Linux Systems.

Interesting, although the author explains only part of the history

Well, I read this book after viewing Job's lecture at Stanford […] really fascinating. So I would know what was happening behind the scenes, and what went wrong on the love story of Jobs and Sculley.

The book explains Sculley's East Coast (and Republican) vision of how to manage a big company, which, is, essentially, I may say a "military" way to organize a company, with clear objectives and responsabilities, vs. the West Coast (and Democrat) which is more cooperative and less organized. Of course you cannot manage a multimillion company with the manager deciding on everything, from the profile of the programmers to hire to the marketing budget.

It explains also the big mistake Sculley (and others have done) when trying to emulate the Sosa wars, with IBM-PC vs. Macintosh. A consumer may just pick one Pepsi on the shelves of a supermarket, and test it, and eventually switch brands... An IT Manager simply cannot do that, and its amazing that people as smart as Apple Board of Directors didn't see this. Anyhow, since then Apple has profiled his public and they did not try to compete with PC clones anymore. They aim their sales to a prospective buyer who is not the IT Manager anymore. Probably this is not a decision done by Jobs when returning to Apple.

What the book says is not as important as what the book hides, probably the fact that not all companies are created equal, and there is no such thing as "one size fits all". Probably Sculley was the right man for the job in a certain moment, but sure Apple under his management would have become a "me too" company, as Hewlett-Packard is now. Of course I prefer the panache of DEC trying to convince the world to follow their way - although they did not suceed - to the Compaq-HP deal, manufacturing dull machines with dull O.S.
