In If You Like Exercise… Chances Are You’re Doing It Wrong, author Gary Bannister tells us that “the power-to-be have all but destroyed the value of muscle isolation, discredited the use of machines in general, ignored everything related to the work of Arthur Jones and replaced it with a ten-cent solution.” He claims that until the field of exercise defines what is true and what is not, it will never have the impact that it could.
Muscle strength, the only factor that can produce human movement and the only factor that performs work, is disappearing from today’s training regimens. This study and guide analyzes current concepts and training systems-such as Pilates, “functional” training TRX, cross-training, kettlebells, and more-and compares their benefits to those of proper strength training to provide a clear picture for everyone.
If You Like Exercise… Chances Are You’re Doing It Wrong rekindles the high intensity strength-training principles of Arthur Jones, the founder of Nautilus. Bannister focuses on the concepts of intensity, form, frequency, duration, number of repetition, speed if movement, and muscle fatigue, supporting them with current research. Logically applied, proper strength training is the only system capable of satisfying all five potential benefits of exercise-an increase in strength, flexibility, cardiovascular condition, body-composition, and injury prevention.

If You LIke Exercise... Chances are You're Doing it Wrong
By Jack Zubritsky
I was a great admirer of Arthur Jones earlier in my life. Since that time, I have read and tried a number of training regimens.
Revisiting the Jones philosophy was refreshing and physiologically advantageous. This is a great book for refocusing and for people new to weight training.
Everyone who has ever trained has gotten into a comforting paradigm and stayed there. They call it a plateau, but few of us ever acknowledge it in our own behavior.
This helped me get past my self satisfaction and get back to some serious gains in strength training. It is worth the price and the time to read it. Use some of that intensity to review what you are doing in the gym while you're out of the gym.

Think twice before doing barbell squats on a swiss ball!
By Roget
Bannister makes sense of safe effective resistance training via the mind of the late Arthur Jones. While this book kicks the chair out from under the current rage of entertainment style training, bringing up logical points to consider before you do barbell squats while balancing on a swiss ball.

This is a great book for high-intensity exercise enthusiasts and a lousy read for the commercial fitness industry!!!
By Trace Johnston
This is a great book for high-intensity exercise enthusiasts who appreciate the immense pioneering efforts of Arthur Jones. More than that, however, is Gary Bannister's justified critique of the "fitness industry" which is currently out of control and inflicting its profit-motivated insanity on an unsuspecting public. Every single personal trainer, coach, and body-builder should force themselves to sit down, read this book, and elevate themselves!!! A more positive title for this book might be: "If You Think Exercise is Hard Work, Chances Are You're Doing It RIGHT!" Mr. Bannister adroitly connects the fundamental principles for proper exercise - most of which was never articulated before the work of Jones and his Nautilus Sports and Medical Industries. But now we have it all before us in one book that can take its rightful place with Jones' own writings as well as with the works of Ken Hutchins, Doug McGuff, John Little and Ellington Darden.
