About the Author
For 18 years, Charles R. Miller owned and operated a successful commercial electrical contracting company (Lighthouse Electric Co., Inc.) in Nashville, Tennessee. Now an accomplished author and educator, Mr. Miller specializes in leading customized seminars on the National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E. Class and seminar attendees have included individuals employed by companies such as Ford, A. O. Smith, The Aerostructures Corporation, and academic institutions such as Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, and Purdue University. Besides teaching his own custom seminars, Mr. Miller teaches for the NFPA. Mr. Miller also writes and illustrates the "Code In Focus" column in ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR MAGAZINE every month, and he co-hosted a home improvement radio talk show in Nashville for more than three years.

The book doesn't really explain the requirements in the 2014 ...

The book doesn't really explain the requirements in the 2014 NEC for AFCI protection. If you look for the requirements, you can find some references, but, for example, the 2014 NEC requires a dishwasher, hardwired or not, to have AFCI protection. That isn't noted in the section about kitchens, the brief section about dishwashers, or in the general section about AFCI. I'm sure if someone dug deeper, he or she could find many more omissions.
It makes me not want to rely on this, and it is supposed to be a reference.

Worth the $$$$$

Not cheap, but provides a useful tool for added comprehension of the Code, and helps drive home the fact that any given issue is typically addressed by several disparate sections of the Code. The illustrations are handy as an aid in quickly understanding and reviewing the material. I bought it as a study guide for an inspector exam, and found it quite useful for that purpose. I think it'll be handy in explaining the code to others, as well.

Illustrated Guide to NEC

This is an excellent compliment to the new NEC code book. However, each section t could have gone into greater detail. There could have been a complete book for residential, one for commercial, and one for Special locations.
